About Southern Motion
Southern Motion was founded in 1996 in Pontotoc, Mississippi, by Guy Lipscomb and his wife Sandy. The couple named the company after a painting titled "Southern Motion" they discovered while shopping, which captured the spirit of relaxation and comfort they wanted to build into their furniture. From the start, the goal was singular: manufacture only reclining furniture and make it better than anyone else had. Today the company operates five facilities in northern Mississippi and employs more than 1,500 workers. Its product line spans sofas, sectionals, recliners, and accent chairs equipped with features such as power headrests, massage and heat systems (branded SoCozi™), wireless charging, wall-hugger mechanisms, and swivel-glider bases. The furniture is marketed as American-made with both domestic and imported components. Southern Motion sells through a network of independent retailers across the United States, Canada, and Mexico. Leadership emphasizes that American workers can produce a quality, competitively priced product, and the brand positions itself as a design and innovation leader in the motion-furniture category. Community involvement, including long-term support for the American Cancer Society's Relay for Life and other local charities, is also highlighted as part of the company's identity.
