About Specialty Groups, Inc. - South Shop
Specialty Groups, Inc. was founded in 1980 in Bridgeport, West Virginia, as a small industrial painting company specializing in pressure washing and coating gas well tanks. The firm later expanded its footprint across the state, establishing a second location known as the South Shop in 2018 to serve southern West Virginia. Today the company employs more than 70 tradespeople and operates across West Virginia and surrounding regions. Its service portfolio spans electrical and highway lighting, bridge rehabilitation, steel fabrication, concrete construction, intelligent traffic systems maintenance, temporary traffic signal rentals, and industrial painting and coatings. The South Shop supports operations in the southern part of the state. Clients include state and federal transportation agencies, utility companies, and private industrial firms. Notable projects include the New River Gorge Bridge rehabilitation (1998 and 2012), the Wheeling Suspension Bridge lighting retrofit, and the first high-mast lighting installation at the I-79/I-68 junction in Morgantown (2018). The company emphasizes a safety-first culture, rigorous training, and a workforce holding specialized certifications in electrical, concrete, and coatings. It positions itself as a single-source contractor capable of delivering complete solutions from electrical and concrete to ITS maintenance and steel fabrication.
