About Toner Electric Company
Toner Electric Company has served Newport County from Middletown, Rhode Island, since 1952. Richard Toner founded the business in Newport, initially performing residential and commercial installations that included work for the Newport Naval Base. His nephew Frank Toner Sr. took over in 1978, incorporated the company, and moved it to in 1987 as his sons Frank Jr. and Scott entered the trade. Today the third generation — Frank Toner Jr. as president and Scott Toner as vice president — runs the family-owned and operated contractor with a fourth-generation apprentice already on the crew. The company operates as a full-service electrical contractor handling residential and commercial work of any scale, from a single outlet to complete commercial fire alarm systems. Services include wiring, service upgrades, panel replacements, renovations, troubleshooting, repairs, EV charger installations (Level 2 for all makes including Tesla wall mounts), and commercial fire alarm design, installation, code upgrades, radio box replacement, and quarterly or semi-annual inspections. A bucket truck and fully stocked service vans support field work, and the team of licensed journeyman electricians covers both residential and commercial specialties. The company has historically performed work for the U.S. Navy at the Newport Naval Base and continues to serve commercial property managers, retail and office tenants, and residential clients needing upgrades, renovations, or new construction wiring. Fire alarm contracts include code-compliant installations and recurring inspections for commercial facilities. Toner Electric emphasizes direct owner contact — calls are answered by Frank Jr. or Scott, not a dispatch center — and a "no job too small" philosophy. The firm highlights neat, clean work habits, first-visit completion enabled by well-stocked vans, and continuity provided by multi-generational family ownership and long-tenured journeymen.
