About TruNorth Solar
TruNorth Solar is a Minnesota-based solar contractor headquartered in Roseville, founded in 2009 by Marty Morud. The company traces its origins to a family farm in Bemidji where Morud, along with college roommate Steve and business partner Dave, built their first array for Morud’s father. After buying out his partners in 2013, Morud became sole owner and grew the business into a full-service installer serving residential, commercial, and agricultural clients across Minnesota and western Wisconsin. The firm designs and installs photovoltaic systems ranging from rooftop residential arrays to large-scale commercial and agricultural projects, and has completed more than 1,200 installations totaling 26 megawatts of community solar and over 110 commercial arrays. A staff of roughly 30 employees handles every phase in‑house — engineering, permitting, incentive paperwork, interconnection, construction, and commissioning — and operates a dedicated “Life of System” service department that maintains and repairs any solar or storage system regardless of original installer. Customers include homeowners seeking lower electric bills, businesses leveraging grants such as Xcel Energy’s Solar*Rewards and C‑PACE financing, and farms pursuing energy resilience and property‑value gains. TruNorth also develops community solar gardens that allow subscribers to offset utility costs without on‑site equipment. Morud frames the company’s mission around environmental stewardship and “honest handshakes,” emphasizing that savings extend beyond money. Membership in the Amicus Solar Cooperative — an invitation‑only national network of independent installers — provides collective buying power and continuous best‑practice sharing, and TruNorth remains the only Amicus member installer in Minnesota.
