About Unique Western Woodworks
A carpenter's son from Red Lodge, Montana, Robichaud began sweeping shop floors at age ten and built his first log chair from driftwood at sixteen. After years working on log homes across Montana and Idaho — including a 15,000‑square‑foot residence in Big Sky and cabins at Twelve Springs Ranch — he launched a side business crafting log furniture from reclaimed materials. The recession of 2009 forced a pivot: a bed built from roadside timber sold quickly on Craigslist, and the company replaced his carpentry income within months. Today the shop produces custom rustic furniture, cabinets, curved staircases, and architectural trim, with roughly 95 percent of output made to order. Every step — from gathering naturally seasoned logs in flash‑burn areas to final finishing — is performed in‑house, allowing control over quality and sustainability. The company also undertakes remodel and new‑construction woodworking, subcontracting only licensed trades such as plumbing and electrical. The customer base is primarily residential, serving homeowners across Idaho and neighboring states, with shipments reaching Texas, California, Alaska, and British Columbia. Builders and designers also engage the firm for custom cabinetry and stairwork on high‑end homes in the Treasure Valley and resort communities like Tamarack and McCall. Robichaud's founding ethos remains central: using dead, dry logs removed from fire‑prone zones both reduces wildfire risk and yields stable, character‑rich material. The company emphasizes affordable, heirloom‑grade pieces built to last, with a small rotating inventory of pre‑made beds and furniture available for immediate purchase.
