About Vermont Woods Studios
Vermont Woods Studios is based in Vernon, Vermont. Founded in 2005 by Peggy and her husband Ken after Peggy lost her teaching position at Tulane University following Hurricane Katrina, the business began in a spare bedroom of their Vernon home selling Vermont-made furniture. The company sells hand-crafted wood furniture — beds, tables, chairs, case goods — made from sustainably sourced North American hardwoods such as cherry, maple, oak, and walnut. The furniture is produced by a network of independent Vermont woodworkers, ranging from solo artisans to shops employing over 50 craftspeople. Vermont Woods Studios operates an e-commerce site and the Stonehurst showroom, a renovated 18th-century farmhouse and barn opened in 2013. The company employs over a dozen people and offers white-glove delivery as standard, free on larger orders. Crafting times range from 6 to 20 weeks depending on the piece. The business serves residential customers seeking eco-friendly, American-made furniture, selling directly through its website and at the Stonehurst showroom. The venture was started to combat rainforest destruction caused by illegal timber harvesting for furniture. The founders pledged to use only sustainably harvested North American woods and have planted more than 200,000 trees in the Amazon and other forests. The mission remains forest and wildlife conservation, with a focus on monarch butterfly habitat in Mexico.
