About WG Carlough Woodworking
WG Carlough Woodworking operates from Blue Grass, Iowa. The founder's woodworking passion dates to high school, with tool collecting and design beginning in 1974. While completing an Industrial Arts degree at William Penn College in 1981, the founder took on commission furniture projects. Core offerings include chess tables crafted from assorted hardwoods, toy vehicles, charcuterie boards, and jewelry boxes made from exotic hardwoods. Heirloom-grade work features Queen Anne–style tables with cabriole legs, Victorian bed frames, and hope chests joined with hand-cut dovetails. The shop also handles millwork and renovation projects for historic Victorian homes. The business serves individual customers seeking bespoke furniture and restoration services for period homes. Projects range from standalone pieces like game tables and keepsake boxes to architectural millwork for historic properties. The founder’s background in industrial arts education and decades of hands-on teaching inform the shop’s emphasis on traditional joinery and period-appropriate detailing. The operation grew from a personal passion into a commission-based practice focused on heirloom-quality craftsmanship.
