Alaska Log Furnishings

About Alaska Log Furnishings

Alaska Log Furnishings operates from a shop in Wasilla, Alaska, where founder Chad Stuber has been building log furniture by hand since 2003. The business began with a focus on using locally salvaged timber — black spruce recovered after wildfires and beetle-kill white spruce — and has remained a one-person operation for over two decades. Stuber produces heirloom beds, dressers, dining sets, railings, tables, cabinets, and on-site woodwork, each piece cut and joined by hand using drawknives and traditional joinery. The portfolio documents 132 completed pieces across categories including 45 beds, 29 dressers and nightstands, 17 tables, and 13 cabinets. Typical lead times run six to fourteen weeks from design to delivery, with every joint cut and every baluster drawknifed in the shop — no flat-pack components or shortcuts. The customer base is primarily residential, serving Alaska homeowners and cabin owners who want custom log furniture built from native woods. Stuber also collaborates on site-specific installations such as railings and custom storage, and ships via enclosed trailer on the road system or coordinates with bush freight forwarders for remote locations. The differentiator is the material sourcing and the pace: every piece starts with logs salvaged from fire or beetle damage, and the build process is deliberately slow, emphasizing hand craftsmanship over volume. Stuber describes the approach as "twenty-three years of doing this one way: slowly, by hand, in Alaska."
