About Bear Wood Company
Bear Wood Company operates from Charleston, West Virginia, with additional galleries in Hurricane and Morgantown. Founded in 2014 by Matt Snyder, the small woodworking business began with a mission to preserve Appalachian history by transforming reclaimed lumber into heirloom-quality furniture and decor. The company remains independently owned and employs a team of ten craftspeople. Every piece is sawn, sanded, and finished by hand using rag-applied oils and waxes; no particle board, MDF, or laminate enters the shop. Primary markets include direct-to-consumer home furnishings, gift retail, and wholesale distribution to independent storefronts. The product line extends to collegiate and high-school memorabilia, seasonal decor, and personalized items. Wholesale buyers can stock Bear Wood products through a dedicated inquiry channel. The company differentiates itself by documenting the provenance of each timber source—such as floorboards from the Meadow River Lumber Company, once the world's largest sawmill—and passing those stories to the buyer. The "Always Home" brand promise underscores a commitment to warmth, craftsmanship, and West Virginia heritage.
