Certified Parts Corporation (CPC) was founded in 1982 by James Grafft in Edgerton, Wisconsin. The company traces its roots to 1974 when Grafft worked at Fox Corporation in Janesville and recognized the need for continuous parts supply for manufacturers that had ceased operations. In 1976 he purchased Fox's service-parts division and the Bridgestone brand on his 26th birthday. Today CPC operates a 200,000-square-foot factory in Edgerton where it manufactures original service parts — carburetors, the full line of Comet torque converters and clutches, and other components — for a portfolio that includes Comet, TecumsehPower, Wisconsin Wagon, and vintage recreational-vehicle brands. The company also owns historic motorcycle and mini-cycle marques such as Bridgestone, Indian, Rupp, Chaparral and Steen, and supplies hard-to-find engine parts for snowmobiles and mini-cycles. Production volumes support both OEM contracts and aftermarket distribution through a worldwide dealer network. CPC serves OEM manufacturers in the recreational, construction, agricultural and marine sectors, as well as dealers and end users maintaining vintage equipment. Its customer base includes original equipment builders that integrate Comet clutches into new products and a global service network that supports TecumsehPower, Lauson and Snow King engines. The business was built on a passion for history and an eye for opportunity: Grafft's strategy of acquiring orphaned brands, restarting production and re-establishing dealer channels has returned multiple legacy names to active manufacturing.
