About Furniture Enterprises of Alaska
Furniture Enterprises of Alaska (FEA) is a family-owned retail group headquartered in Anchorage, Alaska. The business traces its origins to Sadler's Home Furnishings, which began serving Alaskans in 1972 from a small store in Chugiak. Dave Cavitt joined Sadler's as a delivery driver in 1975 and rose through the ranks to become a partner. In 1988, Dave and Rachel Cavitt purchased Sadler's and began expanding the operation into a multi-brand portfolio. Today, the company operates 13 stores across Anchorage, Eagle River, the Mat-Su Valley, Fairbanks, and Sterling. FEA's retail banners include Sadler's Home Furnishings, Ashley Furniture HomeStore, Williams & Kay, La-Z-Boy Furniture Gallery, Ultimate Mattress, and Mattress Firm. The group supports its stores with a 100,000-square-foot distribution center in Anchorage that processes nearly 100 containers of furniture each month. Williams & Kay also offers interior design services and a custom order center for made-to-order furnishings. The company serves residential customers throughout Alaska, providing options from affordable furniture at Ashley to fine home furnishings at Williams & Kay, reclining furniture at La-Z-Boy, and a range of mattresses from luxury to budget at Ultimate Mattress and Mattress Firm. FEA's buying teams attend major U.S. furniture markets and travel internationally to Europe, China, Vietnam, and Mexico to select products suited to Alaskan tastes and logistics. The Cavitts emphasize that FEA is 100% Alaskan owned and focused exclusively on home furnishings within the state. They cite the challenges of cold winters, long shipping times, and complex logistics as reasons to maintain local control and a dedicated distribution network. Second-generation involvement, with daughter Hayley working across warehouse, delivery, sales, and administration, underscores the family's long-term commitment to the Alaskan market.
