About House of Timber
House of Timber operates from a woodworking studio in Hartland, Michigan, where it was established in 2018 by David Zupec as a father-and-son workshop. The business began a year earlier when Zupec built a holiday dining table for his family with his father's guidance, an experience that sparked a deeper commitment to craftsmanship. By early 2018 the pair officially launched the venture under the name Great Lakes Farmhouse, rebranding to House of Timber in 2024 as demand grew nationwide. The workshop handcrafts custom dining tables, live-edge tables, and matching benches from premium American hardwoods such as walnut. Each piece is made to order in a small shop, allowing clients to specify dimensions, shape, base design, wood species, and finish. Since 2018 the team has completed hundreds of tables, with production typically requiring three to four weeks once a build slot opens. Customers range from homeowners furnishing dining rooms to commercial and hospitality clients; a review from Forest Dunes Gulf Resort notes a custom table and bench for a resort setting. The company ships finished pieces nationwide from its Michigan facility. Zupec states the mission is to build tables that will still gather families together 50 years from now, emphasizing quality, integrity, and respect for the artistry of woodworking. The founder's background in design from the College for Creative Studies informs a blend of clean lines and traditional joinery that the company says sets its work apart.
