About Ilumen Solar
Ilumen Solar is a locally owned solar installation company based in Lake Barrington, Illinois, serving the northwest Chicago suburbs. Founded in 2016 by Zach Witt, a Barrington native and NABCEP-certified Technical Sales Professional, the business began with a community-first mindset: “if we don’t start a solar business here then we’d be doing a disservice to the community.” Witt, a Montana State University graduate, also serves on the Barrington Area Chamber of Commerce board and mentors high school business students. The company provides turnkey solar solutions for residential and commercial customers, including rooftop panel installation, battery backup, critter guards, electrical upgrades, EV charging, combined solar-and-roofing projects, inverter monitoring, and SREC management. A three-person core team—Witt, operations manager Dan, and project coordinator Austin—handles site assessment, design, procurement, and post-installation monitoring. Drone flights are conducted before proposals to ensure accurate production estimates. Ilumen Solar works with homeowners, business owners, and “stranded” solar customers left without support from original installers. Reviews cite projects ranging from shaded residential properties requiring creative outbuilding mounting to commercial arrays, though specific client names are not disclosed. The firm also assists with Illinois incentive applications such as Illinois Shines. Witt started the company to bring high-quality, aesthetically focused solar to the area. Differentiators include pre-contract site visits with drone surveys, meticulous design that hides conduit in attics, a preference for North American-sourced equipment, and financing without hidden dealer fees. The company emphasizes local presence, community involvement, and long-term service for systems built to last 25-plus years.
