About Kindel Furniture Company
Kindel Furniture Company traces its roots to 1886 when Albert F. Karges, a first-generation immigrant, invested $600 to begin making moderately priced American-style furniture from local hardwoods in Evansville, Indiana. Charles J. Kindel founded the Kindel Furniture Company in 1901. In 1964, John Fisher of Muncie, Indiana, purchased Kindel, and the Fisher family has maintained family ownership for over 50 years. The current entity, Kindel Grand Rapids, was formed when Kindel Furniture acquired the Karges and Councill Furniture companies, bringing together over 300 years of collective experience. The company is headquartered in Wyoming, Michigan, in the Grand Rapids area. Kindel Grand Rapids produces made-to-order, handcrafted luxury furniture from its Grand Rapids facility. The product range spans dining, occasional, bedroom, and workspace categories, offered in styles including Timeless, Mid-Century Modern, Urban Modern, Transitional, Hollywood Glam, Organic, Coastal, Minimalist, Bohemian, and Industrial. Each piece is crafted to the precise specifications of the customer, emphasizing American craftsmanship and domestic production. The company serves the luxury residential and commercial office furniture markets, working with interior designers and clients seeking signature, American-made pieces. Its workspace collections, marketed as defying office expectations, include desks, tables, credenzas, and components for traditional and transitional offices. Kindel differentiates itself by championing a standard for domestic work while other companies have pursued lower-cost offshore production. The firm’s commitment to 100% American-made furniture and the preservation of a multi-generational craftsmanship heritage underpins its positioning.
