About Lyman's Farm Store & Amish Furniture
Lyman's Farm Store & Amish Furniture operates from Fairfield, Maine, a rural community in the central part of the state. The business traces its roots to 1998, when Tom and Joy Lyman purchased the West Lynn Farm Store in nearby Winslow, where Tom had worked for years after a career in dairy farming. The couple renamed the operation Lyman's Farm Store in 2003 after relocating to its current Fairfield location. The company runs a dual-format retail operation: a traditional farm supply store and a dedicated furniture showroom added in 2016. The showroom carries Amish-made bedroom, dining, office, living room, and outdoor furniture, all built by craftsmen using time-honored joinery. Customers can customize pieces through an in-store design center, selecting from wood species such as brown maple, cherry, hickory, quarter-sawn white oak, and red oak, along with a range of stains, paints, fabrics, and leathers. The customer base has grown from a strictly local following to a regional draw as the furniture line gained popularity. The pivot to furniture came in 2009, when economic pressures on the farming sector prompted the Lymans to diversify. The first delivery of Amish rockers and gliders sold quickly, confirming a market for handcrafted, customizable pieces.
