About Morgen Woodwork
Morgen Woodwork operates from Purchase, New York, where founder Gary began woodworking as a hobby in 1992 in the basement of his home. Inspired by television woodworkers and authors, he spent the next 28 years refining his craft and producing hundreds of pieces before turning the pursuit into a full-time vocation. The shop creates bespoke furniture for every room in the home, including dining and living rooms, bedrooms, offices, bathrooms, and outdoor spaces. Each project starts with a collaborative design process, often initiated through a virtual consultation, and progresses through handcrafted construction in Gary's workshop. Output is measured in individual commissions rather than volume runs, with hundreds of unique pieces completed over nearly three decades. Clients are primarily residential customers seeking tailored solutions for specific spaces and aesthetics. A testimonial from Melissa Shapiro-Bey, Director of Ecommerce Operations at West Elm, highlights a custom desk built for a New York City apartment, illustrating the shop's ability to meet exacting dimensional and stylistic requirements. The portfolio also includes categories such as spiritual items, music-related pieces, and decorative objects. Gary emphasizes that the distinguishing feature of Morgen Woodwork is the co-creative experience: clients participate in the design, resulting in heirloom-quality pieces that reflect both function and personal narrative. The company does not mass-produce; instead, it aims to deliver furniture that customers value for the role they played in its creation.
