About PMA Friction Products
PMA Friction Products was founded in 1979 in Batavia, Illinois, after beginning as a garage operation producing friction materials to meet customer demands. The venture quickly grew into a full-time effort, to incorporation that same year. The company later expanded into a 60,000-square-foot facility in Batavia, where it operates today. The company custom-formulates and manufactures non-asbestos brake and clutch friction materials, including gear-tooth components (internal and external teeth), disc brake pads, friction disks, integrally molded parts, arc-and-radius components, custom-shaped pads, and bonded assemblies. All tooling—99.5 percent—is designed and machined in-house, supported by an internal chemical lab for compound development and a quality lab for testing. The facility runs two shifts, five days a week. PMA serves industries such as mining equipment, home appliances, and general industrial clutch and brake applications. Its engineering team works with customers on a case-by-case basis to pre-screen material selections and reduce R&D costs, supplying both standard and custom configurations for heavy-duty and light-duty uses. The business was built on a premise of hard work and dedication to exceed customer expectations. By keeping tooling, testing, and production under one roof, PMA aims to deliver faster response times, lower start-up costs, and greater control over the manufacturing process, resulting in a superior customized product.
