About Reclaiming Iowa
Reclaiming Iowa operates from West Des Moines, Iowa, where it was founded in 2008 by Kevin Dubay. Dubay holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the Kansas City Art Institute and a Master's in Furniture Design and Manufacturing from the University of Arizona, and he launched the studio to combine artistic vision with hands-on craftsmanship. The company builds custom commercial and residential heirloom furniture and architectural woodwork using locally sourced reclaimed timbers and live‑edge hardwood slabs. Every piece is made to order — about 90 percent of projects are fully custom — and the workshop handles everything from consultation and design through handcrafting, kiln‑drying slabs to 6 percent moisture content, and finishing with a durable hard wax oil. Restoration services are not offered. Clients span residential homeowners and a range of commercial sectors: restaurants and bars (dining tables, bar tops, back bars, feature walls), retail (countertops, shelving, product displays), and office or flex spaces (conference tables, desks, reception pieces). The studio has completed projects for businesses across Iowa, delivering and installing each piece statewide at no extra charge. Dubay started Reclaiming Iowa to provide furniture that fits a client's exact space and style while preserving the history of salvaged wood. When possible, pieces are labeled with the original building name, location, and construction date, turning each item into a conversation piece and an environmentally sustainable choice.
