Rockledge Farm Woodworks

About Rockledge Farm Woodworks

Rockledge Farm Woodworks operates from a 200-year-old hill farm in Reading, Vermont, where a family-owned woodworking tradition spans four generations. The business traces its roots to a mail-order venture that sold wooden furniture from the farm, and today the converted barns house workshops, a gallery, and offices for the small, family-operated company. The workshop produces custom furniture and one-of-a-kind pieces crafted from sustainably harvested Vermont hardwoods such as birdseye maple, curly maple, black walnut, cherry, flame birch, and various burls. Each project begins with hand-selected lumber sourced from small local mills, and the team builds everything from heirloom tables and chairs to accessories including cutting boards, bowls, utensils, jewelry boxes, game boards, and bentwood oval ware. No two pieces are identical; the firm describes its output as “one-of-a-kind, one-at-a-time” handcrafted work. Customers include private clients who collaborate on custom designs as well as select galleries and stores across the country that carry the accessory line. The company does not operate as a production shop with a fixed catalog; instead, it treats every commission as a fresh start, developing designs directly with the buyer. The founders’ philosophy centers on letting the wood itself guide the design—unusual live-edge slabs may sit for years until the “proper use becomes apparent”—and on keeping the supply chain local unless a specific material cannot be found in Vermont. This approach, they say, distinguishes them from volume-oriented furniture makers.
