About SchoolHouse Woodworking
SchoolHouse Woodworking operates from Chester Springs, Pennsylvania, where founder Jeff Devlin established the business after a lifelong passion for carpentry that began at age 15. Devlin’s television career on DIY’s Stone House Revival brought wider attention to his focus on historic renovation, but the company remains a deliberately small operation built on personal involvement rather than scale. The shop specializes in historic restorations, custom cabinetry, furniture making, and kitchen and bath renovations. Work includes period-correct joinery, random-width floorboard installation, fireplace restoration, and the integration of modern appliances within historically accurate cabinetry. Every project is handled directly by Devlin, from initial consultation through on-site execution, with no large crew or subcontracting layers. Clients are primarily owners of historic homes and properties in southeastern Pennsylvania, including landmark buildings such as the 1735 Drovers Inn, a historic tavern and inn that the company helped restore. The work also extends to hospitality venues seeking period-authentic interiors. Devlin states that the company was founded on a philosophy of “doing right by the house and the client,” emphasizing complete honesty, a hands-on presence at every stage, and a refusal to take shortcuts. The goal is to leave a legacy of craftsmanship that honors the original structure while meeting modern needs.
