About Blockhouse Furniture Company
Blockhouse Furniture Company operates from York, Pennsylvania, where it has maintained a 221,500-square-foot factory since relocating from a small facility on the outskirts of Philadelphia. The business was founded in 1971 as a maker of occasional tables and expanded into lounge seating by the end of the decade. It remains family-owned, with leadership describing the organization as a family that takes pride in keeping production domestic. The company designs, manufactures, and installs contract furniture for high-use environments. Its product lines include the Spartan series of bookcases, desks, wardrobes, chests, and beds, all built to order using CNC woodworking equipment, hand finishing, and in-house upholstery. Manufacturing is done entirely at the Pennsylvania plant, allowing customization of fabrics, finishes, and dimensions. Blockhouse serves healthcare (waiting rooms, patient rooms, urgent care), behavioral health and corrections facilities, federal, state, and local government agencies (bunkhouses, lounges), and higher education (dormitories, lounges, faculty spaces). The firm also works with architects and interior designers on custom projects. The company emphasizes domestic manufacturing, replaceable components that extend product life, and a patented Key-Loc system that allows cushion flipping and cover replacement. It positions itself as a long-term partner, offering design consultation, installation, and ongoing support rather than simply selling furniture.
