About The Gorge Wood Company
The Gorge Wood Company operates from Danese, West Virginia, in the heart of the New River Gorge region. The business traces its roots to a small sawmill originally known as New River Farms Sawmill, founded with a simple mission to turn local timber into usable lumber. No founding year or founder names are publicly disclosed, and the ownership structure has not been specified. Today the company produces kiln-dried hardwood lumber, interior paneling and accent boards, and custom-cut timber beams up to 25 feet in length. Species include white oak, red oak, and hemlock, sourced from Appalachian hardwoods. The operation handles the full chain from log selection through sawing, kiln drying, and secondary processing such as resawing, straight-line ripping, gang ripping, and planing (S1S, S2S, and S4S). Facility size, employee count, and annual volume figures are not published. Its services division offers custom sawmilling for outside logs with a typical three-week lead time, plus hourly processing services for resawing, straight-line ripping, and planing. The company emphasizes complete control from log to finished product, citing precision, pride, and a deep respect for the wood as guiding principles. It positions itself on doing things the right way—delivering ready-to-use timber that lets customers focus on their projects.
