About The Wood Cycle of Wisconsin Inc.
The Wood Cycle of Wisconsin Inc. operates from Oregon, a village in Dane County, Wisconsin. The company was officially formed in 2001 when founder Paul Morrison left an engineering career to pursue woodworking full‑time, moving the operation from a basement hobby to a restored farmstead. An abandoned goat barn became the workshop, a turkey shed the sawmill, and the farmhouse the office. In 2008 the business incorporated as it expanded, adding a historic round‑rafter barn relocated two miles across snow‑covered fields to serve as the main shop, finishing room, and showroom. The company produces custom fine furniture, premium live‑edge wood slabs, and urban lumber. Its capabilities span the full chain from log to finished piece: custom milling, kiln drying, design, cabinetmaking, and installation. The facility includes a sawmill, kiln, and finishing space housed in the restored barns. A small team of experienced craftsmen handles every step, delivering and installing completed pieces themselves. The Wood Cycle also sells kiln‑dried slabs and lumber directly to woodworkers for DIY projects. Clients range from homeowners seeking heirloom tables, beds, and built‑ins to businesses and community organizations needing conference tables, commercial interiors, and architectural details. The company has furnished thousands of residential, commercial, and public spaces across the greater Madison area over more than 25 years, including a long‑standing partnership with Habitat for Humanity supplying urban wood for affordable housing since 2010. The Wood Cycle was started to preserve Wisconsin’s hardwoods by giving dead and dying urban trees a second life as furniture and lumber. Full control from harvest through drying and fabrication allows the team to track each piece back to its source tree, maintaining consistent color, grain, and story. This philosophy led the company to become a founding member of the Urban Wood Network, reinforcing its commitment to local, sustainable material cycles.
