About Unique Custom Furniture
Unique Custom Furniture is based in Fredericktown, Ohio, in Knox County. Founded in 1995 as a family-owned business, the company began when its owners started collecting barnwood from old barns in the surrounding area, refining and finishing the wood, and selling pieces at furniture shows. The company designs and builds custom furniture from reclaimed chestnut and oak barnwood aged 100–200 years, sourced from Ohio, Appalachia, North Carolina, and Tennessee. The process involves kiln drying for two to four weeks, processing by an Amish wood specialist (planing, straight-line cutting, nail and dust removal), then in-house cutting, sanding, finishing, assembly, and quality inspection. Products include benches, buffets, tables, stools, dressers, hutches, office furniture, and media consoles. The company’s reclaimed barnwood furniture appeals to buyers seeking heirloom-quality pieces with historical character. The founders were amazed at the beauty of finished old barnwood long before a barnwood furniture industry existed. They emphasize a unique aesthetic, a refined making process, and the use of genuine American barnwood handcrafted by skilled artisans, positioning each piece as a connection to American history.
