Drumlin Woodworks operates from a refurbished shed on a family farm in Deerfield, Wisconsin, about 15 minutes east of Madison. Rich and Kelli acquired the property in 2023 and transformed the 40-year-old structure into a workshop equipped for sawmilling, kiln drying, and fine woodworking. The venture began with a simple idea: to mill and dry locally sourced logs for custom woodworking projects and fellow craftsmen. The shop provides a full chain of wood processing services. Logs are sawn to customer specifications, then dried in a vacuum kiln. An inventory of locally grown slabs and lumber is kept on hand, and the facility can plane, flatten, and straight-line rip material using a 25-inch planer, a 16-inch jointer, and a 10-foot sliding table saw. A 6-by-13-foot CNC machine adds precision machining capability, and the team builds custom furniture from the milled stock. Rich, who has more than 30 years of woodworking experience and holds a physics degree and an MBA in operations, sources logs from nearby communities, giving them a second life as lasting pieces. The company distinguishes itself through its commitment to urban lumber and a localized supply chain, turning overlooked trees into finished products without leaving the region.
