About Lusk Scandia Woodworks
Lusk Scandia Woodworks operates from Coon Valley, Wisconsin, where Mike Lusk began working with wood in 1985 and turned the craft into a full-time profession in 2000. Mike’s background includes early training through the Vesterheim Norwegian American Museum and a gold medal in woodcarving awarded in 1992. The shop produces custom handcrafted woodworks inspired by Scandinavian design, including cabinets, doors, shelves, tables, trunks, bent-wood boxes, bowls, ornaments, figurines, and plaques. Every item is made by hand using basswood for pieces intended to be painted or rosemaled, as well as a variety of hardwoods for stained finishes. The Lusks prepare surfaces to a smooth finish but leave final finishing to the customer, and they also offer woodcarving instruction at the Vesterheim Museum and Norskedalen Heritage Center. Testimonials cite purchases of mirrors, trays, and bowls from Wisconsin, Texas, and beyond. The company distinguishes itself through a direct lineage to Norwegian immigrant craft traditions—Mike’s grandfather was a woodcarver and his mother a Vesterheim Gold-medalist in rosemaling. Pieces are designed to be well made, beautifully designed, and built to last, with lead times of 10 to 16 weeks for custom orders.
