About Kit Clark Furniture
The business traces its roots to Clark’s early fascination with wood during a forestry program at the University of New Hampshire, followed by a carpentry apprenticeship under his uncle, master carpenter Robert Clark, in Montana. After studying at the Penland School of Crafts in North Carolina, Clark opened a studio in Bozeman, Montana, then relocated to North Ferrisburgh, Vermont in 2000. In 2007 he trained with chairwright Hal Taylor on Sam Maloof–style rocking chairs. The family moved to North Yarmouth in 2016, where Clark now runs the workshop as a solo maker. The shop produces bespoke furniture ranging from rocking chairs and dining sets to beds, bookcases, and custom accessories. Each piece is handcrafted to order using a variety of domestic hardwoods; Clark works directly with clients to develop designs or adapt pieces from his gallery. There is no standardized production line—output is measured in individual heirloom items rather than volume batches. Clients are primarily residential customers across the United States and Canada, including homeowners in North Carolina, Massachusetts, and as far as Singapore. The company ships finished pieces throughout the continental U.S. and Canada, and offers in-home consultations for local projects. Clark cites a lifetime guarantee on every piece as a core differentiator, reflecting a commitment to durability. His design philosophy draws on the fluid forms of nature, and the Sam Maloof rocking-chair lineage informs the sculptural comfort of his seating. The business was built on the desire to create functional art that brings the peace of the outdoors into daily life.
