About Mark Lackley Furniture Maker
Mark Lackley Furniture Maker operates from a woodshop in Taftsville, Vermont. The business traces its start to 2006, when founder Mark Lackley built a custom poker table for a hedge-fund manager from Armonk, New York, complete with drink holders fashioned from refurbished brass artillery shells. Lackley, an Atlanta native and Yale graduate who has lived in Vermont since 2001, runs the company with his wife and business partner, Kim. The venture gained momentum after Maine furniture maker Thomas Moser praised the piece at a fine-furnishings show, urging Lackley to produce more. The shop produces one-of-a-kind, handcrafted poker and game tables. Each piece is built to order, incorporating custom designs such as reversible tabletops that convert between poker and dining or conference use, varied base styles, integrated chip wells, drink holders, and tailored armrests. Work combines traditional woodworking — joinery, veneering, and intricate inlay — with light fabrication, including custom-welded stainless-steel and brass components for hardware and lighting. Clients span high-net-worth individuals, corporate executives, and entertainment-industry figures. Notable commissions include a table for Guy Laliberté, co-founder of Cirque du Soleil, and a reversible conference/poker table for an executive office. The tables have also been featured in Architectural Digest, the Robb Report, and the New York Times, with most new business arriving through word of mouth. The founder's 30 years at the bench, spanning cabinetmaking, welding, and bookbinding, underpin the blend of artistry and engineering that defines each table.
