About SolarPod

SolarPod is based in Shakopee, Minnesota. Founded in 2009 by Mouli Vaidyanathan, who holds a PhD in Metallurgical Engineering and is a licensed Professional Engineer and Master Electrician, the company began as Mouli Engineering, selling modular ground-mounted DIY solar systems and installing conventional solar arrays. Vaidyanathan recognized that traditional racking methods damaged roofs with numerous penetrations, prompting him to develop a non-penetrating racking solution. The company manufactures two patented racking systems—Z-Rack for sloped roofs and Z-Lite for flat roofs—in its Shakopee facility. Both systems are designed to eliminate roof holes, using a weighted, non-penetrating design that has been wind-tested and approved in over 300 jurisdictions. SolarPod also provides full installation services for residential, commercial, and utility-scale projects, and offers modular DIY kits that can be configured for grid-tied, off-grid, or hybrid operation. To date, the company reports 16 MW of installed capacity across more than 1,000 installations. SolarPod serves homeowners, businesses, and solar developers across Minnesota and beyond. Its racking products are sold to installers, contractors, and developers for projects ranging from small residential arrays to a 408 kW commercial installation at Edina’s Cornelia Elementary School. The company also markets directly to DIY customers through its online store, where systems are priced by panel count and configuration. Vaidyanathan founded SolarPod to address the structural damage and water-leak risks inherent in conventional racking. A partnership with OneTreePlanted adds a tree-planting component to every product sold.
