About Viking Log Furniture
Viking Log Furniture was founded in 1979 in St. Joseph, Minnesota, initially producing rustic bedroom furniture and waterbeds. The company remains a Minnesota-based manufacturing plant led by President Mike Legatt, who emphasizes that the operation will never become a mass-production factory. The shop builds a full line of handmade rustic, barnwood, and sawtooth hickory furniture, including log beds, bunk beds, dining sets, pool tables, kitchen cabinets, and bathroom vanities. Production uses kiln-dried pine and cedar, solid maple dovetail drawer boxes with full-extension slides, aromatic red cedar drawer bottoms, and a moisture-resistant catalyzed lacquer finish. A signature hand-draw-knife technique shapes the edges of accent logs, handles, tops, doors, and drawer fronts. The facility maintains a warehouse stocked with over $450,000 of inventory, allowing immediate shipment of catalog items. Customers range from individual homeowners furnishing cabins, lake homes, and ski lodges to resorts and lodges across the United States seeking a rustic or western aesthetic. The company also accepts custom orders for any rustic log or barnwood piece to match specific decor requirements. Viking Log Furniture differentiates itself with a lifetime warranty on every piece, no lead times on stocked items, and a commitment to craftsmanship that blends old-world hand tools with modern machinery for precision and cost-effectiveness. The president’s stated philosophy is to remain a growing manufacturing plant without sacrificing the handcrafted character of each product.
