About Custom Works Inc.
Custom Works Inc. operates from Naperville, Illinois, where Serbian‑Macedonian couple Stefan and Melanie founded the company to blend Stefan’s carpentry heritage with Melanie’s project‑management expertise. Stefan grew up in a small town in southern Serbia, spending school holidays in his grandfather Stojan’s workshop, while Melanie brought a background in interior design and operations. Together they launched Custom Works as a vehicle for European‑inspired craftsmanship in the Chicago suburbs. The shop produces custom furniture, cabinetry, built‑ins, vanities, and one‑off wood pieces, and pairs that output with full‑service home remodeling—kitchens, bathrooms, staircases, mudrooms—and outdoor construction such as patios, decks, and custom exterior features. Projects move through a four‑step design‑build process: consultation, design approval, fabrication (with a typical 8‑10‑week lead time), and on‑site installation. The client base is residential homeowners across the Chicagoland area. Recent work includes a full basement rebuild after flood damage with a custom bar and media wall, a kitchen remodel that opened up the floor plan and added lighting, a sentimental coffee table milled from a family tree stored for a year, a mudroom with integrated storage, and an entertainment wall with custom TV stand and paneling. The founders frame the business around four stated values—sustainability, tradition, integrity, and quality—describing their approach as the “European way.” All lumber and materials are said to be ethically and responsibly sourced, and the goal is to create pieces that last for generations rather than follow fast‑furniture trends.
