About Factory Direct Furniture
Factory Direct Furniture operates a 100,000-square-foot showroom in Hutchinson, Minnesota, a business the Heikes family has run since 1985. The company traces its roots to a roller rink called Minnesota Fun, owned by co‑founder James “Jim” Heikes; his son Keith Heikes now owns the store, which reopened as a furniture retailer in 2007 with multiple generations of the family involved. The store stocks a broad range of residential furniture—sofas, sectionals, dining sets, bedroom suites, home office pieces, and mattresses—much of it sourced directly from U.S. manufacturers to avoid distributor markups. A dedicated Amish collection features handcrafted solid‑wood pieces made in the USA. Customers can also customize upholstery fabrics and wood finishes across most categories, and the company provides delivery and setup services throughout Central Minnesota. The primary customer base is households in McLeod, Meeker, Renville, and Wright counties. The business positions itself as a community‑focused retailer, sponsoring local events and supporting area schools and sports programs. The founders’ stated aim was to eliminate middleman costs by buying straight from factories, passing savings to local shoppers. That mission, coupled with a family‑owned service model, remains the core differentiator the company emphasizes.
