About Maine Woods Co
Maine Woods Company operates from Portage, Maine, where it has been producing hardwood lumber since its founding in 1841. The company runs a state-of-the-art sawmill and dry line, positioning itself as the largest single manufacturer of hard maple lumber in the Northeast. It processes northern hardwoods — hard maple, yellow birch, soft maple, and white ash — into rough dimension stock, surfaced lumber, and specialty items such as bird's‑eye and flame birch. All output carries an FSC® certification guarantee. Maine Woods Company markets its lumber to discriminating buyers in the region and beyond, though the provided materials do not name specific industries or customers. The firm was featured in the December 2022 issue of National Hardwood Magazine. Its stated mission — “Running right, running safe to sustainably produce the highest quality hardwood lumber” — reflects a focus on safety and sustainability. The company attributes the superior color and grain of its wood to the colder climate of Maine's northern forests.
