The business traces its roots to 2004 when Jon Deerfield founded Nature's Curve Woodworking in an artist community in Niagara Falls, New York, after earning a BFA in Furniture Design and apprenticing with two master craftsmen—including work on a Frank Lloyd Wright house restoration. Deerfield relocated to Vermont in 2007 to join Wall/Goldfinger, a high-end commercial furniture maker serving clients such as the New York Stock Exchange, the White House, and the Federal Reserve. In spring 2012 he relaunched the venture as Real Tree Woodworking, which has grown steadily since. The shop produces custom cabinetry, furniture, doors, and architectural trim on a build-to-order basis, and also offers piecework processing of solid wood, sheet goods, real wood veneer, and laminate for other builders and DIYers. A dedicated finishing room rounds out the in-house capabilities. The current team comprises Deerfield and three woodworkers—Matt Joyce (since 2022), John Crowne (since 2021), and D.J. Rummell (since 2025)—working in the 3,500 sq ft facility. Customers span residential and commercial construction across Vermont and the East Coast (New Hampshire, Massachusetts, New York). The client base includes architects, designers, general contractors, and other woodworking shops. Notable past projects include commercial office furniture for Wall/Goldfinger's institutional accounts and the Frank Lloyd Wright restoration.
