About Relic Modern
Relic Modern operates from a Northeast Minneapolis studio where founder Justin builds every piece by hand. The solo maker came to woodworking without formal training, drawing on a lifelong impulse to build — from childhood forts to theater sets — and now channels that instinct into mid-century modern furniture. No founding year is publicly stated. Justin selects, mills, joins, sands, and finishes each item himself; there is no warehouse or assembly line. The catalog includes coffee tables, end tables, bookcases, media consoles, seating, bed frames, vanities, nightstands, liquor cabinets, and smaller decor objects. Custom commissions range from variations on existing designs to entirely new pieces such as aquarium stands, built-in bookcases, banquette seating, and stair bannisters. Customers include residential buyers, interior designers, and boutique retailers across the United States. Pieces have been placed in homes and stores nationwide, and the maker notes public commissions and media recognition. The brand positions itself as an alternative to particle-board, mass-produced furniture, emphasizing functional minimalism and heirloom durability. The name reflects a balance between historical reference and contemporary use, with the goal of creating modern relics meant to be lived with and passed down.
