About Stark Mountain Woodworking Co

Stark Mountain Woodworking Co. was founded in 1993 in New Haven, Vermont, a town of about 1,800 people in the state's mountainous region. The business began as a two-person shop and has grown to a team of more than 20 craftspeople operating from a 24,000-square-foot facility. The company provides full-service custom woodworking, producing cabinetry for homes and offices, furniture, and architectural millwork for institutions such as museums, libraries, and colleges. Each project moves through design collaboration, 2D and 3D shop drawings created with AutoCAD, DataCAD, AlphaCam, and Cabinet Vision, CNC fabrication on three- and five-axis routers, moulding, sanding, edge banding, finishing in a dedicated spray booth, and final assembly and installation. A bandsaw mill and vacuum kiln give the shop control over lumber from tree to finished product, and a full metal shop handles architectural finishes in stainless steel and bronze. Clients include architects, interior designers, general contractors, and homeowners. Notable project types range from residential and commercial interiors to institutional work for colleges, libraries, and museums. Stark Mountain has been FSC-certified since 2001 and sources a large percentage of its lumber within a 30-mile radius. The facility runs on roughly 60 percent solar power, with a 54 kW hillside array and a 34 kW rooftop array, and is heated by a pelletizer that converts shop sawdust into fuel. A bike-to-work program has logged over 145,000 commuter miles since 2006.
